Caryn Stemler-BirrI have been teaching in District 197 since 1999. I have taught at Heritage, Sibley, Garlough, Somerset, and Friendly Hills, with most of my teaching at Friendly Hills. I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan and attended Calvin College where I received my BA in Physical Education. In 2004, I received my Master’s Degree in Education from St. Mary’s University and completed additional licensing requirements for Health Education in 2013 at the University of Minnesota.

I am married and have two boys who keep me busy. Thankfully, they like sports as much as I do! I spend much of my spare time watching my boys play sports as well as coaching them. When I have time for myself, I enjoy watching college football and basketball (especially Michigan State), knitting, and running.

All handouts will be found in your student's Canvas.
Fitness logs are due at the end of each month. (They are available in Canvas.)

7-8 HEALTH: Health is a separate grade from Physical Education class. About six days each quarter students will be in the classroom focusing on health topics. At the end of the school year, a final grade will be given that is worth a quarter grade. A folder will be required for the classroom portion of Health. All Health classroom late work is due a week after the health unit is complete. Much of the health class will be discussion led and activities. Click on Health units for the 2018-19 topics by grade.

All handouts for the Health unit are found in Canvas.
