iPad Distribution Nights - September 28-October 1
iPad Distribution Nights - September 28-October 1
Posted on 09/15/2015

As Friendly Hills families learned last spring, District 197 has launched its comprehensive technology plan, called “EmPowerED”. This district-wide initiative will integrate technology into classrooms and allow all teachers to personalize learning and prepare our students for college and/or careers in the 21st century. The plan has three key parts; ensure high-quality professional development for staff, transform curriculum and instruction, and implement devices for students. The timeline and approach in these areas will vary by school and grade.

The device used at both district middle schools will be a school-owned iPad.

We will conduct a comprehensive roll out of the devices at Friendly Hills at the end of September (see below) that includes information regarding:
- Proper care and handling of the iPad
- Expectations for appropriate use of the device
- Device set-up instructions

The iPad distribution events are for students and their parent(s)/guardian(s). Providing students with a device empowers them with a valuable educational tool. However, it also requires that students know how to use their device responsibly, and further, that parents receive the same information in order to help students be successful.

iPad distribution will occur on the following evenings between 4 and 8 p.m. Sessions will last around 40 minutes.
- September 28 - Grade 8
- September 29 - Grade 7
- September 30 - Grade 6
- October 1 - Grade 5

CLICK HERE TO REGISTER or call the main office at 651-403-7600 to sign up for a parent/student session (above). Space is limited in each session, each night!

Note: An Alternate (make-up) iPad distribution event will be held Oct. 5 for all grades. Select “the dates do not work for me” when you fill out the online form (link above). If you have children in multiple grades, you may attend one distribution night for all of the students in your household. Similarly, if your family has a conflict on the night of the distribution event for your grade, simply sign up for a different night that works for your schedule.

To prepare for the iPad Distribution Night, students in grades 5-8 should take time to sign in to their school Google email (Gmail) account to re-familiarize themselves with their username and password. Further, over the summer our technology office has been creating Apple ID accounts for Friendly Hills students and notification emails have been sent to their district email addresses. An individual Apple ID is necessary for students to access educational apps and classroom materials through an iPad. Students will receive more information about this during their iPad distribution session.
